The Khatchkar Cross

On display right now at The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the 12th century Khatchkar cross.  This monumental stone cross is making its first U.S. appearance thanks to the State History Museum of Armenia.  The cross weighs some 2,000 pounds and is carved into an 8-foot block of basalt with the symbols of four evangelists and small birds at fountains.  more
