San Sabino has arrived on an airy corner in the West Village. It is the brainchild of wife and husband chefs Angie Rito & Scott Tacinelli of critically acclaimed Don Angie. This modern Italian-American eatery marks their second collaboration with Michael Stillman and Quality Branded.

Designed by award-winning studio GRT Architects, San Sabino is located in the heart of the West Village and is named for Scott’s maternal grandfather after the patron saint of Sanza in the Italian region of Campania, where he was born.

Look for elevated Italian fare at San Sabino with a focus on hand-made pasta and seafood. Start with raw and chilled East Coast Oysters with Neapolitan pomodorini, oregano oil and fresh horseradish. Crab & Mortadella Dip is served alongside Ritz crackers and sweet cherry pepper jelly. Spicy Tuna features broken arancini, rabe furikake and charred scallion crema. For the table, there are fritters called Cheesy Frittelle with orange blossom honey and saffron served on a small cake stand with grated Pecorino Toscano cheese and freshly cracked black pepper.

Pastas bring dishes like Lobster Triangoli in a white vodka sauce; Pasta alle Vongole with Manilla clams and Aji Amarillo; Stuffed Farfalle with smoked chili crab and Pepperoni Carbonara featuring hand-rolled Ziti and Szechuan peppercorn. Mains include a take on Shrimp Parm made with enormous, head-on prawns in a Sweet & Sour Arrabbiata sauce; Steak “Magazzino” with anchovy chili crisp and pine nuts, drawing inspiration from a dish Scott & Angie enjoyed at a restaurant called Il Magazzino in Florence.

For a sweet finish look for desserts like Toasted Rice Panna Cotta made with pistachio sticky rice, young coconut and candied Sicilian pistachio, Caramelized Crespelle with Italian Rum crema and Key Lime.

Signature cocktails also offer a nod to Italy with drinks like the Mambo Italiano (Passionfruit, dark & light sums, Galliano, Thai basil, soda), Sanzese Spritz (Prosecco, Tepache Sazon, Fior di Sicilia, Aperol-infused pineapple, lemon soda) and Scottie’s Martini (Garlic Bread Vodka, spicy brine, giant olives). More than 120 wines are offered with a focus on natural producers from Italy and the United States, with many bottle under $100.

The intimate West Village space features a curved back-lit bar with hand-made tile, lacquered mahogany tables, round sconces, and banquette style seating blending Italian design with elements of nostalgia.
