It's enough to make Orson Welles proud. Named after his 1949 classic film, The Third Man is offering its own air of mystery as visitors arrive through a tunnel passageway to get to this nightspot in Alphabet City. Here your will find two dining areas with emerald green banquettes and a wrap-around bar. It's the brainchild of Michelin star chefs Eduard Frauneder and Wolfgang Ban (of SeƤsonal and Edi & the Wolf) who are turning out small bites and classic cocktails. Drinks include the "Chesterfield" made with gin, ginger juice, lime, house-made grenadine and tonic water, and a "Beat Martini" spiked with vodka, dry vermouth, pickled beets and shaved horseradish. Bites include a worldly selection of cheeses and house-cured charcuterie, along with small plates, like Pork Crackling with apple and pickled red onion, and Paprika Ricotta with sunflower seeds on pumpernickel. Think of it as a slightly more sophisticated take on the duo's more communal, and very popular, Edi & Wolf. - Thomas Rafael
