Cititour Review:

Location is vital for almost any restaurant in a city with as many choices as New York. The bustling traffic jammed streets of midtown near 34th street are honestly an area I try to avoid at all costs. However, when I recently found myself attending a concert at Madison Square Garden, location came into play as I chose a place for a dinner reservation. Tupelo Grill is tucked away directly across the street from Madison Square Garden. The restaurant is set back a bit with a few tables out in front to grab a drink and people watch. The décor inside is bright with pale yellow on the walls and high vaulted ceilings. The tables are packed together a little too tightly to accommodate the crowds. The dining area is pretty relaxing until about an hour before the concert or game when the restaurant fills to capacity. The volume gets a bit high, but it is an excited energy with people gearing up for the concert or game they are about to attend. We shared a Beet and Goat Cheese Napoleon Salad as an appetizer. I ordered the Sautéed Halibut with artichokes and white beans as my entree. My friend ordered the Herb Crusted Tuna rare with fingerling potatoes, olives, capers and peppers. I have a weakness for Sweet Potato Fries and ordered them to share with our entrees even though they didn't quite fit with the meal. The dinner was enjoyable and the fish was very fresh. Both meals were cooked to order and the wait staff is mindful of the event time restrictions. Tupelo Grill is a great option for lunch if you work in the area or dinner if you are going to be in midtown. Remember to make reservations if you are dining at Tupelo Grill before an event at the Garden because it does get packed.
